Instead of using a self-signed certificate, get a real SSL/TLS certificate for free by following this guide: Using Let's Encrypt with UnrealIRCd. Let's Encrypt uses short-lived certificates that auto-renew, it is free and takes a short effort to setup. If you don't want that and prefer long-lived certificates of 1-2 years then you can also get certificates for money from other certificate authorities.
